Visa-free travel to the US, coming soon
According to the Q4 2019 issue of the Henley Passport Index, the Cyprus passport currently holds rank 16, offering Cyprus passport holders visa-free or visa-on-arrival entry to 174 countries. And very soon, that number is expected to increase to 175, with the addition of a very important country: the USA.
Cyprus’s Foreign Minister, Nicos Christodoulides, recently confirmed that the Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs within the U.S. Department of State, Carl Risch, is eagerly awaited in Cyprus this month. Their agenda will focus on discussions regarding the lifting of visa requirements for Cypriot nationals who wish to travel to the United States.
Also participating in the discussions will be the Cyprus Minister of Interior and the Minister of Justice. Both the US and Cyprus are committed to taking serious steps this year towards an agreement on visa-free travel to the US. The government has already completed an extensive questionnaire, which is regarded as one of the last steps in the process.
Stay tuned for more news, and hopefully we will soon be in a position to announce that your Cyprus passport grants you visa-free travel to the United States.
